You can expect a warm welcome by our family and experienced members of staff — we are here to help you through a difficult time in your life.
Our premises is in a rural setting away from the busy high street, where we have plenty of free parking.
Everything is carried out under one roof, from arranging the funeral, to visiting our Chapel of Rest, and we offer free transport for all those necessary appointments relating to the funeral, should you need it. Alternatively, we are more than happy to visit you in the comfort of your own home to make the arrangements.
Susan Whymark has been a funeral director since 1996 and gained her diploma from the National Association of Funeral Directors in 1998.
She has worked for both independent and large corporation-run funeral services, but found independent and family run funeral service
suited her personality.
“Arranging a funeral is one of the hardest things to do in a lifetime. When I worked for the large corporation-run funeral service I found the restrictions placed upon me whilst arranging funerals with families left me feeling I had not done all I could. Opening my own funeral service has allowed me to give families the flexibility of products available and time needed to arrange a fitting tribute.
“Having lost my father to colon cancer aged 68 in March 2000 and my husband to lung cancer aged 43 in April 2008, I have even more understanding of how it feels to be bereaved and the level of empathy needed at such an awful time.”
Susan lives at Riddlesworth with an assortment of pets. She has also lived and worked in the Eye area for most of her life. She attended Hartismere High School in Eye. She was made Chairman of the Essex and Suffolk local association of the National Association of Funeral Directors in October 2008.
Dianne Whymark is Susan’s mother and has worked with Susan since they opened the company together in March 2005. Dianne retired
from a 41 year career in nursing, the last 21 years spent as night sister and later nurse manager at Priscilla Bacon Lodge in Norwich.
Her experience in handling death and bereavement have been invaluable. She was therefore chosen to figurehead our bereavement support group, having completed a course in bereavement counselling.
Dianne lives in Kenninghall with her sister, having lost her husband George, Susan’s father, to cancer in March 2000.
Joan Joyce joined us in 2007 and is our Funeral Administrator. Joan previously worked for Rackham’s Funeral Service in Harleston
but, following a buyout by the Co-op Funeral Service, she decided she could no longer work under the guidelines of such a large
corporation. She therefore brings with her considerable knowledge of funeral service. Joan has described working with our families
as a privilege.
Joan lives in Redgrave with her husband Vic and their dog Oliver. Her daughter and family also live close by in Redgrave.
Aaron Ling joined the company in July 2007 and is our funeral operative. Aaron is also a retained firefighter for the Diss Station. Aaron
had not previously worked within the funeral service but has been keen to learn and is a valued member of our team.
Aaron lives in Roydon with his partner Joy and their two children.
We also have a fully trained team of bearers.
We use a Vauxhall Omega hearse and limousine, which are meticulously cleaned and serviced regularly.
We can also provide other methods of transport if requested.
The list is not exhaustive but can include horse drawn hearse, motorbike hearse, Land Rover hearse and Land Rover limousine and traditional style hearse in other colours.
